When does a brand new house become a home?
A friend told me she felt at home in her new build house when she had hung her pictures and settled her houseplants. Copper Bottom has felt like our home for a while, but it felt complete this weekend when our painting, Freshwater, arrived.
What feels like a long time ago, we met local artist Julia Thaxton, to talk about commisioning a painting for Copper Bottom. Our last house was built on the Thames and we had lived by water for three decades, so leaving was a wrench. Julia paints en plein air and much of her work is inspired by water so we imagined this painting might be a link to our riverside home when we moved away and up a hill.
Julia came up to Copper Bottom to assemble Freshwater this weekend. Of course photos cannot possiblly do justice to a beautiful painting. Suffice to say, it is everything we had hoped.
You can see more of the story of Freshwater on Julia’s Instagram.
